Check out these listeners from around the world!
Hi,

Last week I had a few days of vacation in the north of Norway (more precisely at 69N02 15E31 on the island Andoya, near this small village http://fallingrain.com/world/NO/9/Bo9.html) together with 3 other fellow hobbyists. One of the main reasons for my stay there was to hear AM stations from the USA. Radio propagation conditions over polar paths were good and I was lucky and heard KMAS on AM 1030.

To prove that I have actually received KMAS, I have attached one audio clip (mp3 format). This was recorded at 12:23 AM PST on January 26, 2008. At the very beginning of the recording I hear a male voice say: “10-30 KMAS”. Next I hear the song “La Mamba”. As the signal is weak you may have to listen several times to the first couple of seconds to catch the station identification.

Some details about me. I’m 46 years old, married to Paula and have 3 children; 1 daughter – Melissa (16) - and 2 sons – Daniel (11) and André (9). I live in the small town Tjelta (population 1.500 – see http://fallingrain.com/world/NO/14/Tjelta.html), some 12 miles southwest of the city Stavanger in the southwestern part of Norway. I work as a senior developer in a software company located in that city. Apart from listening to my radio whenever time allows, I do daily updates of STAR (Solar Terrestrial Activity Report) – http://www.dxlc.com/solar/.

My receiver is an SDR-IQ (http://www.rfspace.com/SDR-IQ.html) and I used a 1300 foot long wire erected about 2 feet above the ground when listening to your station. This antenna is directional to the northwest.

An important part of my radio hobby is to receive a confirmation from the station I have heard. An email reply stating “Yes, you heard us”, or something to that effect, would be very welcome! Thank you for your time.

Best regards,

Dear Dale Hubbard, KMAS AM 1030.

After having tried 1030 AM quite often the latest years, I finally managed
to pick up KMAS during my 12-day-long visit to Arctic Norway in October!

It sure is fun to receive verifications and stickers from radio stations I
have heard, and each new one I get I pin-point on a map. I do hope you
will send me a letter, a card or an email with a verification of my
reception.

From the program I heard and also from your web page KMAS looks to be a
very nice radio station indeed, and I do look forward to hearing from you!

Mr. Dale Hubbard, General Manager, KMAS AM 1030:

Let me first introduce myself. My name is Tuomo Ahonen and I'm writing to you from North of Europe, Finland.

I'm very pleased to report reception of KMAS on 1030 kHz on October 15, 2007 from 9:53 p.m. until 10:03 p.m. Pacific Daylight Savings Time. Wave propagation has always fascinated me and it was amazing to be able to capture your signal so far away across the Atlantic in the other side of the world, Finland.  The reception was a real thrill to me - you really made my day!

I used an US made RFSpace SDR-14 communications receiver with 1000 meters long-wire antenna beamed to the Western US.

Since my written details are quite few but however the reception was surprisingly good I'd like to play you the real audio that I captured. I guess that it might be interesting for You to hear how KMAS actually sounded over here. Please, find attached an mp3 audio -file of the reception. If you listen to it very closely I think you are able to recognize your station on the mp3. If you can't hear it clearly enough from the speaker, please use headphones if available. Listening to the somehow noisy signals using headphones usually makes things clearer.

It was very enjoyable to listen to your program. I would very much appreciate a verification of the reception from KMAS to add to my collection from nearly 1100 BCB -stations in The United States and Canada if this report is indeed correct.

I'd like to thank you in advance for your valuable time and consideration in answering me and helping me with my hobby.  I look forward to hearing from You regarding this unique reception of your station over here in Finland.

Sincerely,

Tuomo Ahonen
